Michelle Williams's Gives Powerful Emmy Speech On Pay Gap for Women of Color
Michelle Williams just solidified her invite to The Cookout…for next year.
Not sure if you all have caught wind of Michelle William’s rousing Emmy speech but if not, have no fear I’m here to deliver all the heartfelt receipts.
Last night the actress took home her first Emmy award, and waisted zero time getting right down to business in her acceptance speech – particularly for women of color.
“The next time a woman — and especially a woman of color, because she stands to make 52 cents on the dollar compared to her white male counterparts — tells you what she needs in order to do her job, listen to her, believe her, because one day, she might stand in front of you and say thank you for allowing her to succeed because of her workplace environment and not in spite of it."
The partner of the late great Heath Ledger also thanked television channel FX and Fox21 studios for recognizing her worth and paying her equally.
“I want to say thank you so much to FX and to Fox21 studios for paying me equally because they understood, that when you put value into a person it empowers that person to get in touch with their own inherit value and then where do that put that value? They put it into their work…”
*Sips glass of chardonnay. * Sis just might be the real deal. Bravo.
